Our CommitmenT
We have always believed in conserving resources and minimizing waste…a principle begun by founder Albert F. Wendling in 1913 and the lessons he learned during the Great Depression.

We appreciate everything we have, we work hard to keep it, and believe in making things last and endure... as our brand has since 1913.

We believe in doing business with other businesses locally and finding sources of supply closer to home to help keep jobs in West Virginia.

We are working with our suppliers to find an increasing supply of environmentally friendly and safe products.

We recognize our important role in food safety and work with our suppliers, distributors, employees, and customers throughout the supply chain to help ensure customers receive safe, quality products. As a member of the West Virginia Department of Health Food Safety Task Force, we are actively engaged in addressing issues and solutions that include education and standards for Food Safety

Non-Foods Efforts
Our Supply Works division provides programs and services to help market “green” strategies to consumers through a complete line of products including:

  • Environmentally friendly Green-Link chemicals
  • Bio-degradable non-foods products
  • Green Seal-certified paper products

We have expanded our line of chemicals and sanitizers that help address cross-contamination and food-borne illnesses when used in combination with an effective program for personal hygiene and food safety education.

Fresh Food Products

USDA Inspected Meat Processing
Since 1913, we have built our business around a reputation of quality meats and value. Our meat shop located in Buckhannon, West Virginia is a USDA inspected facility to insure product quality and safety standards are met every day.

We have found suppliers of natural beef and other products that meet a growing customer demand for products without hormones or preservatives and sourced from grass-fed and native born livestock.

 Fresh Seafood
Our PierFresh Premium Seafood division sources product from the highest quality suppliers who select the freshest, safest, sustainable species from around the globe. Each order is custom packed for our customers and shipped through our own distribution system in the most direct route to deliver the product fresh and conserve energy.

Energy Conservation
Our fleet of trucks are being equipped with state-of-the-art refrigeration units that use 50% less fuel than previous technology.

Our warehouse utilizes energy-conserving lighting and we are investing in a complete re-design of our warehouse and technology to reduce wasted energy and resources.

Locally Grown
We have partnered with local and regional organizations such as Central Appalachian Network (CAN) to help develop access and availability to more locally grown produce, and other products in the future as these markets become more economically viable.
